Grindhouse Grappling System

“I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand. “ - Confucius

Our grappling system is the next step in the evolution of grappling based martial arts. At Grindhouse, you’ll learn how Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling, and Judo work together in a system designed to build grappling skills instead of rely on memorization of techniques. We make classes accessible to every skill level and body type so that you can fully participate from day one.

Grappling Skill Development

"Once you’ve wrestled, everything else in life is easy".” - Dan Gable

Learning science tells us that people learn best when they are having fun, they are given tasks that are just a bit outside of their current skill zone, and when they are given the personal freedom to try things their way. We also know that learning does not happen at the same rate for everyone.

Our grappling system emphasizes the importance of steady progress over time.

Active Learning

You spend most of your time experimenting with grappling techniques and movement in every class. This maximizes your learning time by focusing your attention on effective movement, not memorization of idealized versions of techniques.

Personalized Feedback

Friendly and approachable coaches give you the attention you need to fine-tune your techniques, correct any mistakes, and make adjustments that work specifically for your body type, physical limitations, and skill level.

Safe Training

This emphasizes both physical and emotional safety. At Grindhouse, our training partners' safety is our #1 priority and we take pride in our inclusive and supportive culture. We have a zero-tolerance policy for overly aggressive behavior and any form of harassment.

What is NoGi Grappling?

Nogi grappling is a dynamic style of Jiu Jitsu that is practiced without the traditional Gi or kimono. It offers a distinct experience that sets it apart from training in the Gi. Without the Gi, your control options change and don't rely on the cloth. You'll focus more on controlling your opponent's body directly, such as using underhooks, overhooks, wrist control, or body locks. This develops your ability to use different types of grips and leverage points, enhancing your understanding of body mechanics and positioning.

Why Train NoGi?

Nogi training complements other combat sports and martial arts. It allows you to seamlessly transition between different grappling styles, expanding your skill set and making you a well-rounded martial artist. The absence of the Gi also makes it more relatable to real-world self-defense situations.

What Martial Arts do you Offer?

We practice Nogi Judo, Wrestling, and Nogi Jiu Jitsu in this class. Wrestling and Judo use many of the same techniques to bring an opponent down to the mat, the names of the moves are just different. Wrestling control is also used once we land on the mat.

What are the benefits of Grappling for adults?

Grappling offers numerous benefits for adults, including improved physical fitness, strength, and flexibility, as well as enhanced coordination and balance. It also provides mental benefits like stress relief, increased focus, and boosted confidence, along with practical self-defense skills. Additionally, grappling fosters a sense of community and camaraderie, contributing to overall well-being.

Is Grappling safe for all fitness levels?

Yes, grappling is suitable for all fitness levels. Beginners can start with fundamental techniques and gradually build their fitness and skills, with instructors adapting training intensity to match individual needs. This inclusive approach, along with a supportive community, ensures that everyone can safely participate and benefit from the physical and mental rewards of grappling.

How can I prevent injuries while grappling?

To prevent injuries, always warm up properly, use correct techniques, listen to your body, and communicate with your training partners. Also, ensure you have a qualified instructor who emphasizes safety.
